Interest rate cuts, inflation and Investing: What’s going on?

With the average Australian experiencing the strain of inflation in their daily lives in 2025, it can make investing in crypto so much harder and when you do, it's overwhelming and put in the too hard basket.

Household budgets have increased significantly due to rising prices of living, education, and utilities, in addition to housing and loan rates and now you're expected to know crypto too - sheesh. The audacity! But let's take a look at this for a second, because whilst we do know our way around the digital currency space we didn’t always. Like you, we started somewhere.

Newsflash this week, on Tuesday, 18 February 2025 is that The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) recently decided to lower the cash rate by 25 basis points to 4.1%. Praise be to the inflation gods!! 🙏🏼

The intent here is to reduce the financial strain that the current cost-of-living problem is placing on Australians. It is anticipated that this action may lower monthly mortgage payments; a household with say a $750,000 loan may see a monthly payment reduction of about $115 but while homeowners may find some respite from this cut, the overall economic climate is still difficult. The RBA has stated that more rate cuts are not assured, highlighting the necessity of "How and where can I move the needle?"

Aside from interest rates, there are some other startling facts about daily life that impact hugely on the financial stability of a household too, because you guessed it - children aren't cheap!!

In 2025, raising children in Australia will require large financial outlays that for many are nothing short of triggering (feel free to peek between your fingers for this one):

  • The general cost of raising a child: Depending on age and lifestyle, families may pay anywhere from $12,000 to $30,000 per child each year, according to estimates. INFOCHOICE.COM.AU; and on average,
  • Each child's extracurricular activities cost families $1,859 per year. UPMOVE
  • and, the costs of education (depending on the kind of school) vary greatly. If your child goes to an independent school for example - lifetime expenses might range from $142,357 in South Australia to $459,236 in Sydney. Yahoo Finance

Are you still here? Great! Because while these 3 facts are also in isolation of higher education, transport, living expenses & utilities - we would like to buffer it out with ways we feel we are really well positioned to help you move that needle forward -* even if it is just using your spare change to start?

Quick recap: Bamboo offers an easy micro-investing platform designed to empower Australians to take control of their financial future. Here's how Bamboo can make a difference:

  • Micro-Investing made easy: Bamboo allows users to start investing with minimal funds, making it feasible to build a diversified portfolio over time. You can use just your spare change with our Round-ups, that essentially allows you to invest $0.50c each time you buy a $5.50 coffee (for example)? It's not like those coins are rattling around in your purse or wallet anymore given the way we transact but we do see benefit in the ‘coin jar’ being put to good use. It ALL ADDS UP!
  • Automated Savings Features: With options like regular 'Top-ups,' Bamboo integrates investing into everyday transactions, enabling users to grow their investments effortlessly. How? Also super easy. Simply allocate the same amount every week, fortnight or month to go into your Bamboo account. This is a consistent way to build your portfolio on auto-pilot and it sees you implementing the simplest strategy there is - it's called Dollar Cost Averaging and we'll bang on about it until the cows come home.
  • Educational Resources & Support: Bamboo provides resources to help users understand investment strategies, fostering informed decision-making and financial literacy. We have informative blogs (if we do say so ourselves), user centric newsletters and Australia's No.1 crypto podcast - Crypto Curious.
  • Enhanced User Experience: Our app is designed with intuitive tools for tracking investments and viewing portfolio performance, making financial management more straightforward. It's investing for dummies - and seeing as you can only invest in either Bitcoin or Ethereum, Gold or Silver (or all of them) means we got your back. Two cryptocurrencies and two traditional precious metals to get you used to investing from the ground up.

It’s important to note that investing is more about consistency than dollars in. At a time where you simply don’t get ‘somethin for nuthin’, we know that starting is the tough part. But, much like we shared with our newsletter readers last week, by spending a miscellaneous amount of $27.40 per day you can waste $10,000 per year! Now that’s triggering!
